On 25th January 2017, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya became one of a selected few universities in Indonesia to host the 6th ASEAN Bridges series as part of its collaborative efforts with The International Peace Foundation - the organisation helps establish lectures and seminars by involving esteemed Nobel laureates in Peace, Physics, Chemistry, Medicine and Economics. The event was held at the university's BSD campus and featured Nobel laureate winner and former Prime Minister of Portugal and President of the European Commission, H.E. Mr José Manuel Barroso who delivered a lecture on the topic "From National to Regional and Global Governance".

Rector of Universitas Prasetiya Mulya, Prof. Dr. Djisman Simandjuntak, Mr Hassan Wirajuda as the former Foreign Minister of Indonesia, Ms Mari Elka Pangestu as Indonesia's former Minister of Trade; H.E. Mr Rui Fernando Sucena do Carmo as the Ambassador of Portugal to Indonesia; H.E. Mr Vincent Guerend as the Ambassador of the European Union to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam; and Mr Uwe Worawetz as the Founding Chairman of the International Peace Foundation were also present at the event. H.E. Mr Barroso emphasised in his lecture how the advancement in science and technology have increased the rate of globalisation in the past decade. As such, this has provided more freedom for trade between countries as well as the expansion of international markets as more businesses engage on an international level. Through this, it is therefore imperative that nations agree on a functioning regional and global governance that is at threat from issues such as inequality, the mutual suspicions between nations, and the erratic movements of goods, services, and capital. H.E. Mr Barroso further elaborated that effective regional and global governance can help maintain peace and stability in addition to nurturing innovation that can help develop economies.

By hosting the 6th ASEAN Bridges series, Universitas Prasetiya Mulya hopes to inspire its students to develop innovative concepts in academia, business, and politics to assist Indonesia in reaching its potential on the world stage.
