Vice President Jusuf Kalla has welcomed plans for the upcoming Asean Bridges event to be hosted in Indonesia from January to March next year.

"To all students and lecturers at the universities that will host the event, it would be a new horizon for science and technology. Without looking towards the future, a nation will not be able to keep up," Kalla said in a press conference in Jakarta, Wednesday (12/10).

"Hopefully the dialog will be beneficial. I welcome the plans and hopefully they will run as scheduled."

Daniel Bednarik, Asean Bridges director of events coordination, said the East-West dialog will take on the theme of constructing peace and development culture around the globe.

"The goal of the dialog is to facilitate and strengthen the communication between Southeast Asian people with various cultures and religions. Aside from that, it is also meant for the people from other parts of the world to promote the understanding and beliefs," Kalla said.
