Cambodia will play host to the Bridges Program: Dialogues Towards a Culture of Peace between November and April next year.
The Cambodian venture will be jointly chaired by King Norodom Sihamoni and Prime Minister Hun Sen and is facilitated by The International Peace Foundation (IPF), an IPF press release obtained on Tuesday said.
“Nobel laureates and some famous figures in the world will join this great event to give their lectures and show in Cambodia as part of Third ASEAN Bridges,” it added.
These figures include Aaron Ciechanover, 2004 Nobel laureate for Chemistry; David Gross, 2004 Nobel laureate for physics; Eric Maskin, 2007 Nobel Laureate for economics; Torsten Wiesel, 1981 Nobel laureate for medicine; Francoise Barre-Sinoussi, 2008 Nobel laureate for medicine; and Jose Ramos-Horta, 1996 Nobel laureate for Peace and president of East Timor as well as Vladimir Ashkenazy, classical pianist; actor Jackie Chan—known n Cambodia as Chen Long; film director Oliver Stone.
Cambodia and the guests will apparently learn from each other in the spirit of peace.
Bun Tee, president of Phnom Penh Tourist Guide Association, said that the event will bring help people around world realize Cambodia is now at full full peace.
People in Cambodia, especially students who have never known war, also stand to gain from learning the lessons of peace, he said, adding that the kingdom is moving forward as a dynamic economy growth and tourist destination. Cambodia has made progress on poverty reduction and political stability, he said.
