Bernama, December 1, 2008

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- Nobel Laureate Professor Robert F. Engle will speak on the financial market volatility during his keynote speech at the second Sime Darby Developing Sustainable Futures Lecture Series on Dec 10.

Professor Engle is a 2003 Nobel Laureate for Economics and the current Michael Armellion Professor of Finance at the Stern School of Business, New York University, said the organiser, Sime Darby in a statement Monday.

Professor Engle developed improved mathematical techniques for the evaluation and more accurate forecasting of risk which have become essential tools of the modern asset pricing theory and practice.

"His work has particular relevance in financial market analysis in which the investment returns of an asset are assessed against risks and in which stock prices and returns could exhibit extreme volatility," Sime Darby said.

Sime Darby is a Malaysia-based diversified multinational, involved in plantations, property, motors, industrial equipment, energy, utilities and healthcare, with operations in over 20 countries.
