It was an A-list crowd that showed up at the media launch of "Bridges", an initiative of the International Peace Foundation to host Nobel Prize winners in a series of lectures and workshops in Thailand and the Philippines, starting next month.

Co-chaired by SGV founder Washington SyCip and Ayala Corp. CEO Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, the Philippine series has won the support of some of the country's most eminent leaders. As a result, the press confernce at the Dusit Hotel in Makati City last Wednesday drew top businessmen, media and heads of the country's top educational institutions.

The guests who attracted the most attention, however, came from an altogether different sector: politics, of the Philippine kind. Former President Fidel Ramos and incumbent Speaker Jose de Venecia sat in the front row, together again a mere day after a supposed reconciliation meeting with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in Malacanang
